Hull PAT Testing Training Course

Looking for a practical PAT testing course in Hull or East Yorkshire?

Our Hull PAT testing training courses are designed to give you the knowledge, confidence and practical experience needed to carry out portable appliance testing safely and competently in real-world environments.

Courses are held regularly at the Mercure Hull Grange Park Hotel in Willerby, conveniently located for delegates travelling from Hull, Beverley, Cottingham, Hessle, Driffield, Bridlington, Scunthorpe and the surrounding East Yorkshire area.

Unlike many heavily classroom-based courses, our training focuses strongly on practical hands-on experience using real appliances and a wide range of PAT testing equipment throughout the day.

Who Is The Course Suitable For?

Our PAT testing course is suitable for:

  • Landlords
  • Maintenance staff
  • Facilities managers
  • Electricians
  • Caretakers
  • Business owners
  • Health and safety staff
  • Anyone responsible for electrical equipment safety

The course is ideal both for complete beginners and for those with previous electrical experience who wish to improve their understanding of inspection and testing procedures.

Many delegates attend the course in order to carry out PAT testing within their own organisation, whilst others go on to offer PAT testing as a commercial service.

Practical PAT Testing Training

The course covers both the theory and practical side of portable appliance testing, including:

  • Electrical safety principles
  • Visual inspection procedures
  • Understanding common electrical faults
  • Safe use of PAT testing equipment
  • Extension lead testing
  • Record keeping and documentation
  • Current best practice guidance
  • Understanding pass and fail decisions
  • Limitations of PAT testing

We place particular emphasis on practical inspection skills, as many dangerous faults are identified during visual inspection rather than electronic testing alone.

Throughout the day, delegates work with real appliances and genuine PAT testing equipment in a relaxed and closely supervised environment.

Bring Your Own PAT Tester

If you already own a PAT tester, you are welcome to bring it along to the course.

We regularly help delegates better understand the equipment they already own and how to get the best from it in practical day-to-day use.

If you have not yet purchased a PAT tester, we can also provide unbiased guidance about the different types of tester available and which models may be suitable for your requirements.

Small Groups and Hands-On Learning

We keep our course groups relatively small to ensure everybody receives plenty of individual support and practical experience throughout the day.

There is no formal written exam. Instead, learning is reinforced through practical exercises and continuous guidance from the instructor throughout the course.

Our aim is to provide realistic, practical training that prepares delegates for carrying out PAT testing confidently in the real world.

About Your Instructor

All courses are personally taught by Tim James, who has been involved in the PAT testing industry for nearly 40 years and has delivered PAT testing training courses across the UK for over three decades.

Tim is widely recognised within the industry for his practical approach to electrical equipment inspection and testing, with training focused on real-world competence rather than simply memorising theory.
