PAT Tester Calibration
Does our tester need to be PAT Tested?
Yes it does! It is a portable electrical appliance, and so it needs to be pat tested. More importantly, it also needs to be calibrated, so you can be sure that it giving accurate results.
Calibration is a complex process, so we recommend you send your tester back to us once every year, or more frequently if you are testing constantly. In addition to calibrating the machine and providing a calibration certificate, we will also carry out an electrical safety check on the tester.
At the present time we use a third party specialist calibration service, making sure the calibration certificates are fully traceable to national standards (traceable to the National Physics Laboratory) and meet all the relevant standards.
Our PAT Tester is new / only a few months old - when does it need calibrating?
Most of the machines that we sell are calibrated by the manufacturer - those that are not are calibrated and tested by us before we sell them. You should therefore, not need to have your tester calibrated until it is a year old. However, you should have it calibrated immediately if you suspect that the results it is giving are not accurate.
We didn't buy our tester from you, can you still calibrate it?
Yes! We can calibrate most all PAT Testing machines, including those from Megger, Irwin, Seaward, Fluke, Metrel, Robin, and Martindale. We can calibrate most of the Seaward range, but if you have a modern Seaward PAT Tester see the note below about 'Nag Screens'.
How much does it cost?
Charges vary, depending on the complexity of the machine, and whether you decide to post it to us yourself or have our courier collect it. Our prices are competitive, bearing in mind we calibrate to the latest standards (traceable to the national physics laboratory.) Our latest prices are on the PAT Tester Calibration Form
We have a modern Seaward PAT Tester (Apollo 600 / Supernova / Europa etc)- can you calibrate it?
The most recent machines from Seaward have a 'nag screen' which puts up a message on the screen when it needs calibrating. This is a counter which appears 1 year from when it was last calibrated - similar to the 'service' light on some cars. We can easily calibrate these machines, but in order to reset the 'nag screen' a password is required, which is only supplied to authorised Seaward dealers. As you might expect, they charge considerably more for calibration! If we calibrate a Seaward machine, we will not reset the counter, which means that you will get a reminder every time you turn the machine on, but once you dismiss the message the tester will work perfectly normally. If you really want the message to go away for 12 months, we can put you in touch with an authorised Seaward dealer who will calibrate it for you and remove the reminder.
Our tester is broken - can you fix it?
Yes we can! We provide free quotations, and will only proceed with a repair once we have your approval. We charge a reasonable hourly rate for repairs, and charge for parts / components at cost price.
To organise a calibration, please call us on 0845 459 4295. We will take some details from you, and arrange for our colleagues to contact you with a fixed price quotation. All you need to get started is the make / model of the PAT Tester, and your name and telephone number.
